Brand identity, costed line by line

How much does brand identity design cost?

A brand identity can cost a few hundred dollars or several hundred thousand. What decides it, what a small business actually needs, and what we charge.

Why the range is so wide

A brand identity is the system around a business: the logo, the typefaces, the colours, the layout, the way it describes itself, and the rules that keep all of that consistent. A large agency rebranding a public company may run research across several countries and charge accordingly. A founder with one product and three competitors needs the same parts, at a scale that fits.

What you should get, at any price

An audit of how you compare with the companies you actually lose to. Positioning: what you sell, who it is for and why you cost more, written in language your team can repeat. A wordmark, a type and colour system with contrast checked, usage rules, and a written guide, so the whole thing survives the first person who opens the files without the agency in the room. That is the list our brand identity service works to.

What makes it cost more

Research with real customers, more markets, more products, naming, and anything produced at scale, such as packaging, signage or a fleet of vehicles. Each of those is legitimate work. None of them is essential for a small business that wants to stop competing on price.

How long it takes

Usually longer than it should, because the time goes on scheduling rather than on design. Our run is three weeks from brief to handover: audit, positioning, the identity system, then the website if you want it built in the same run. The process page sets out what happens in each week.

What we charge

Our identity work is priced against its scope, one-off, with every file owned outright. Adding the website, designed and built in the same three weeks, moves that number up. What is and is not included comes in writing with the number, so you can weigh us up before anyone gets on a call.

How to tell whether a quote is fair

Ask what is delivered, in which files, and who owns them. Ask whether positioning is included or assumed. Ask to see the written guide, and what happens when your team needs a new asset after the agency has gone. A quote that cannot answer those clearly is pricing a logo and calling it an identity.
